CHAPTER ONE

Sierra
I slammed the door after I started my car. This man had me so upset. Why did Deon have to spoil the moment by asking me to move in?
Shit! I told his ass from the beginning that I didn't want to settle down and wouldn't be ready for a long, long time. I guess he thought I was playing.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't pissed that he asked, I was mad that he put me in the position of having to say no. I knew I wasn't ready for that; I really wasn't ready for any kind of life-changing commitment.
I was twenty-eight, had a decent job and no kids, my own three-bedroom house and my own ride. What did I need with a commitment like that right now? I was doing me, and I wanted to continue doing me for a long time.
As I backed out of the driveway, Deon came running out of his house. Seeing him standing there with that crushed look on his face about broke my heart, but that's what happened when a nigga didn't listen.
I shook my head and put the gear in Drive while looking in the rearview mirror as Deon's image became smaller and smaller.
I knew it was going to be hard on me for the next couple of months, or at least until I found another nigga with enough money to replace Deon. That wasn't an easy thing to do here in Savannah.
Deon Wilson had money and he was single...at least until he met me. I drove down the street, thinking about how we met. Some months ago, I walked into an auto shop that he owned looking to get an estimate. I had hit a pole at the gas station earlier that day and the green paint had rubbed off on my brand new pink Lamborghini Gallardo. That stale paint had my shit looking ugly as fuck. I wanted it fixed, and I wanted it fixed right then.
The instant I walked to the counter for assistance, Deon's eyes were all over me. I had him hooked before I opened my mouth.
An hour later, Deon and I were done talking and flirting. We spent twenty minutes talking about my car, and the other forty? Well, we discussed getting together later that day. We exchanged numbers and he was mine up until he popped that silly little question.
Moving in, though? He was lucky that I was even letting his ass fuck me. He couldn't eat pussy to save his life and his dick was barely the size of my middle finger.
And whatever I had earned on my own, stayed in my pocket, because he allowed me to spend his. I wasted no time hitting the malls and high-priced boutiques at his expense. I knew that when I cut him off his money was going, too. But on the flipside, at least I didn't have to deal with that wack ass sex and unsatisfying head game. I was going to miss his ends, but was I going to miss Deon? Niggas with a heart came a quarter a dozen, so I had hoped that I hadn't made a mistake.
Before I reached the red light, my phone began to vibrate. Shawn's name flashed across the screen. I quickly pressed the accept button.
"Hello," I answered, smiling.
"What you doin', boo?" He asked. That suave voice always made my pussy wet. Every time I heard it, I thought about the first time he had fucked me to high heaven.
Fucking Shawn every other day was the reason I was able to maintain having a relationship with Deon. Shawn didn't have a lot of money, but he had the lovemaking skills to make up for it.
"Going home. You won't believe what just happened!" I said, making a right on Abercorn when the the light turned green.
"'Sup?"
"Please tell me why Deon asked me to move in with him a moment ago."
"I don't know why you sound surprised, Sierra. Shit, if I was fucking with you like that for real, for real, a nigga would lock you down, too. The pussy is just that awesome."
I started giggling. If Deon had said something like that, I probably would've been disgusted. "Shut up, boy. You know I told his ass no."
"Why? That fool is paid. Why not live off that simple ass nigga and get him for all he's got?" Shawn questioned.
I pondered quietly, considering what he was saying. Although I'd be financially set for quite a while, I couldn't see myself spending the rest of my life fucking and sucking on Deon's sorry excuse for a dick. Besides, shacking up wasn't something that I joked about. Plus, I didn't want to ruin the freedom I had to see Shawn. I'd settle down when the time was right.
"But that's just it, Shawn. He's too simple. You know what type of niggas I like, that's why I'm fucking with you," I said smoothly, trying to hype up his ego.
"Yeah, I know, but you ain't getting any younger baby," he said, playing. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Nigga, please don't get sideways with me. Just because you're twenty-one don't mean shit."
"Yeah, I'm twenty-one, but I bet I handle my business."
My pussy started getting moist at the thought of what he meant by "handling his business."
"You coming through tonight?" I asked. "After the day I had, I need some of that good ass dick you got," I moaned, really missing him.
"Yeah, I'll come through about midnight. Wear that sexy thing I like."
"Shawn, you know I sleep naked."
"Exactly."

"Because I'm busy."
"You wasn't too busy when you was flirtin' with that nigga, Shawn, at the club a month ago. I've been tryin' to get at you for the longest, take you out, show you some shit you ain't never seen before, but you keep puttin' a nigga off. What's up with that?"
"Troy, I've told you a thousand times that I don't want to go out with you, but you don't want to hear that so I resorted to lying. Maybe now you'll get the hint." I threw the dish rag on the counter that I used to clean the sink out.
I usually ignored Troy's calls, but I had accidentally answered this time and now I was stuck having to explain myself.
"It's like that, SiSi? Damn, I get the hint now. I'll stop fuckin' witcha, homie." Before I could say anything else, he hung up.
"Good." I rolled my eyes, cut off the kitchen light and walked into my bedroom to get ready for my rendezvous with Shawn. I was fiending for him like he was crack and I was the crackhead.
I checked the time on my phone and saw that there was a text from Shawn. I smiled, hoping that it contained a dirty message. My smile immediately turned into a frown when I read that he wouldn't be able to make it.
"Something came up."
"Yeah right, nigga!" I said aloud. My day was shit and my night was turning into shit too. I thought getting some dick from Shawn would make me feel better, but now I was more pissed than before.
I stood in the middle of my bedroom floor, debating with myself on what to do. I needed companionship, but I wasn't going to get it from Deon--ever again--and I wasn't going to get it from Shawn, either.
I checked my call log and dialed the most recently received call. He answered on the first ring.
"Don't say nothin'. Just come over and fuck the shit out of me." I hung up and continued getting ready for my impromptu rendezvous.

Shawn
As badly as I wanted to see Sierra, I had more urgent matters at hand. My sister's boyfriend had gotten shot and she was at home, hysterical.
"Don't worry, Melody. I'ma ride on those niggas that shot PeeWee. Stop cryin', I'm on the way."
I sped toward Eugene Gates projects where my sister lived. I slowed down when I drove through the wrought-iron gate and found a vacant parking space. Immediately, I saw nosey-ass black people walking in and out of Melody's crib like they owned the place.
What the fuck is going on over here? I asked myself. My sister was a pretty private person. Having motherfuckers all through her house wasn't her cup of tea.
I walked past the crowd to get to Melody's door. Despite the number of people outside, there was only one person in the living room with my sister. I spotted her best friend, Brittany, sitting by her on the couch, handing her a piece of tissue. She looked up and saw me walking toward them.
"How she's doing?" I asked Brittany.
"How the fuck does it look like I'm doing, Shawn? I mean, shit! You can ask me, I'm sitting right here! Brittany ain't my damn mama!" Melody snapped big time as I took a few steps back. That's exactly why I spoke to Brittany first. I was trying to avoid that bullshit.
"You gon' have to chill with that attitude, Mel. I ain't tryin' to start with you!" I argued back.
"Y'all can't ever have a decent conversation without yelling at each other," Brittany commented. She stood up and walked down the hall to use the bathroom.
"Why you ain't at the hospital, Melody?" I asked her. I wanted to know why she was chilling at the crib while her man was laid up in a hospital bed with two bullet holes in his chest.
Melody quit crying long enough to answer me. "I was there. They wouldn't let me see him, because he was in surgery. I tried to control my emotions, but I started snappin', Shawn. You know I got a temper. I was pissed that they wouldn't let me see him."
"Okay, but why you ain't there now?" I continued questioning.
"They had me escorted off the premises just as PeeWee's family showed up. I was embarrassed, but I wanted to see PeeWee. Talkin' 'bout I ain't family. That nigga sleeps in my bed every night! I wash his damn draws! His family don't even call to check up on him. I'm his fuckin' family and they wouldn't let me see him!" She burst into tears all over again.
I was glad that Brittany had walked back in just in time to comfort her.
"Melody, chill, man. PeeWee is going to pull through. One of my men is a custodian at the hospital. I hit him up before I got here. He was able to get some info on PeeWee, and let me know that he was good. Now stop cryin', you'll be able to see him tomorrow."
She nodded her head as her tears turned into sniffles. Brittany handed her more tissue to dry her face.
"You leaving?" Melody asked me.
"Yeah, but only for a little while. Brittany, can you stay here until I get back?"
"How long you gon' be? I need to get home to get my baby."
"It shouldn't take too long. Lock up after I leave. I don't want nobody else up in here." I slammed the door as I walked back outside. Most of the crowd had left, but a few straggled behind.
One of those people was Alexis, Melody's next door neighbor.
"'Sup with that nigga, PeeWee? I heard he got popped. He dead or what?" She asked. I screwed my face up at Alexis' ignorance.
"Nah, he good."
Alexis was labeled the neighborhood's "Gossip Queen." She prided herself on getting and spreading the news first. When people wanted to know what was going on behind the gates of Eugene Gates, they knew who to contact directly. She was probably the reason all those niggas were hanging around, being nosey and shit.
When I climbed in my car, I noticed that Alexis had followed me. She leaned inside through the lowered window.
"When you gone chill with me again, Shawn?" She asked.
I stuck my key in the ignition, but didn't start it. Instead, I leaned back against the seat and looked at Alexis. She was pretty, very pretty and that was her downfall. Born in the right environment and to the best parents, Alexis could've been a doctor or a super model. Unfortunately, she was dealt a bad hand, so I understood why the projects was all that she knew.
"I'm not even tryin' to go there with you, Alexis, or have you forgotten what the fuck happened last time? I almost had to put a bullet in ya boy."
"You still trippin' on that? How was I supposed to know Major's crazy ass made a copy of my key? He just couldn't take the hint that it was over. I thought we moved past that. I miss you, baby," Alexis said, reaching in and grabbing my limp dick. "Can I still taste it?"
"Hell, nah! Because of you, I had to beat that nigga's ass and almost got arrested. Your pussy ain't worth all that trouble."
I removed her hand and asked her to back up from my car. I started the engine as her mouth dropped open. I smirked and turned out of the parking lot.

I knocked on the door of my baby mama's two-bedroom apartment. Sometimes I spent the night there to be with my child, but most nights I stayed at my spot. She was always on my back about moving in to raise our son together, but I wasn't tryin' to hear that shit. Elise knew I wasn't feeling her like that. If the condom hadn't popped, she would've been a hit-and-quit.
She opened the door while holding my six-month old son, SJ. SJ looked exactly like me. He had my round nose, my dark, almond-shaped eyes and the same dimple in his right cheek. His deep brown complexion matched mine to a tee. He was my first and only and I loved him to death.
"Where you been at all day?" Elise questioned as she walked away from the door and sat down. SJ was pressed against her breast. When I looked closer, I noticed that she was feeding him.
"With Melody," I took off my shoes to get comfortable. I sat down next to Elise and my son. "PeeWee got shot earlier today."
"What? When? By who?" Elise quizzed. She turned around so fast that SJ unlatched from her nipple. After she positioned him back into place, she turned to me for answers.
"Damn, slow down on the questions. It was some time around two, down at Lou's Liquor store. I think some lil niggas tried to rob him. I'm looking into it," I said, taking off my shirt. I could feel Elise's eyes roaming my upper body. "I'm going to The Spot tomorrow to see what I can find out. Somebody's gonna pay for this shit."
"Shawn, don't go down there startin' no shit. I don't want anything to happen to you. We just had a baby," she cried. SJ made a sniffling noise. I looked down at him as he cooed in his sleep. "Let me go put him in his crib. I'll be right back."
Moments later I heard, "Shawn, wake yo' ass up!" I felt a finger tapping me hard on the shoulder. My eyes fluttered open. "I know you ain't sleep, nigga."
"Damn, I must've been tired," I said. "Didn't even know I fell asleep. How long you been gone?" I rubbed my eyes, trying to wake myself back up. After all, I had come over for two purposes.
"I don't want you going over to The Spot tomorrow night, for real. I heard it's gon' be deep out there. Undercover cops and shit. I can't raise SJ on my own if something happens to you." Elise sat down next to me and put her head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her and assured her that nothing was going to happen to me.
"You sure?" She asked. I kissed her on the lips to shut her up. My dick was hard as hell and I wanted to fuck. I nodded my head as I ran my hand up her shirt.

She looked down and asked, "What're you grinning for?"

"I wanted to see my son, Elise. You should already know what it is between us." I opened the door and walked out. I turned around when she started yelling.
"No, that's how you makin' it. But you know what? I'm not gon' keep letting you treat me like some kind of ho. I'm the mother of your child. If you can't be with me...with us like a family should be together, then you can't see your son." A tear slid down her cheek and then she slammed the door in my face.

Sierra
I was still pissed the next morning. Troy had just left, and I was glad, because I was about to throw his ass out. I called him over because after all that shit and game he's been spitting at me, I decided to call him on his bluff. He used to tell me that he was going to gnaw on this pussy and how he would fuck me so good that I wouldn't want any else.
After that bullshit performance he put on, I couldn't do shit but blame myself. His head and dick game was worse than Deon's. I had to give Deon one thing, at least he could last. Troy's ass was out like a light after the first ten minutes. I couldn't wake him up because apparently he is a heavy sleeper. Not only that, but this nigga snored so loud, I couldn't get any sleep. I even tried sleeping in my back bedroom, but that didn't help. His snores traveled throughout the house. When he woke up about ten minutes to seven, I wasted no time telling him I had to go to work, and that he needed to leave.
"But I thought you were off on Saturdays," he said, as I walked behind him to my front door.
"Well, not today. Bye!" Just as I turned around, there was a knock at the door. "I know this nigga ain't still here."
I opened the door quickly, ready to snap on his ass when I noticed that it wasn't Troy at all. It was my cousin, Alexis.
"Girl, what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I thought you were somebody else," I said, opening the door wider and walking away, leaving Alexis to shut it.
"You mean that nigga who almost hit me when I pulled up? Girl, he must not know who I am!" She laughed and shut the door. As she walked down the foyer, she added, "He's fine, though. Where'd you find him?"
I rolled my eyes, gave her a hug, then sat down on my black leather couch. "The real question is, how the fuck did he find me? His ass has been after me for months. Last night, I decided to fuck with him to see where his mind was really at, and what the dick was like. But of course, disappointed again. What's new with you?"
"Same ol', same ol'. Trying to find a job, but the Department of Labor really ain't trying to help me for real," she said.
"Don't they pay you unemployment?" I asked. She was getting a check while she was at home sitting on her ass. I don't know why she was complaining.
"That measly one-fifty a week they give me? By the time I pay bills, get neccessities, and buy food, that shit is spent."
"True, but you ain't gotta buy clothes and shit with the rest of the money. Stash some away for a rainy day. There's always a time when you're going to need that money," I warned. "How are you and Shawn? He acting right yet?"
Alexis waved her hand in the air like she was trying to dismiss the conversation.
"I don't even want to talk about him. We ain't really on speaking terms right now. He's still mad about the shit that happened with my ex, but he'll come around and we'll be back together. That nigga just needs to cool off."
"Whatever you say, girl," I said, shaking my head. I smirked as she sat back on the couch, wallowing in her lies. I knew the real deal with her and Shawn. Even though Shawn and I had just met, we had gotten close quickly and discovered that we could confide in one another. When he found out that Alexis and I were cousins, he immediately told me that he fucked her once and that was it. He said Alexis started catching feelings, but that was her problem.
Yes, I started fucking Shawn after her but that was before he told me about their past. Messing with men my family members or my friends had was a number one no-no in my book. Had I known beforehand, I probably wouldn't have gone there. I say probably because I would have tried, but I don't really know if I could have resisted. By the time I found out about Shawn and my cousin, I was addicted to him. I told him that I could handle his past and that I was still going to fuck with him anyway. I also promised that I would never tell her or anyone else about us. He had a psycho-ass baby mama and I was in a relationship with someone he was close with.
"Did you hear me?" Alexis asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"What did you say?"
"I asked what did you and Deon have planned today?"
"I think he said he wanted to see a movie or something. I'm not really sure at the moment. No plans were set in stone." I loved my cousin to death, but Alexis couldn't hold water to save her mother's life. I knew that if I told her my business, it would be spread out all over Eugene Gates by lunchtime.
"I was thinking that the four of us could go on a double date."
"The four of who?" I questioned. I hoped she wasn't putting me on the spot.
"Me, you, Shawn and Deon. You think they'll be down? I've been waiting a long time to meet Deon, anyway."
I breathed a sigh of relief. I nodded my head like it was a possibility. I knew it wouldn't happen. There was nothing between her and Shawn and it'd be a cold day in hell before anyone saw me out with Deon again. It hadn't been twenty-four hours and I was already over him.
"I'll check with him and let you know," I lied.
"I'll do the same." Alexis stood up, stretched and started walking toward the front door to leave. "You going to The Spot tonight?"
"Maybe, why?"
"Luke will be there and he wanted to see you. He just got back in town. He was looking real fly, too. He told me to tell you to holla' at him." She walked to the door, opened it and stood in the doorway. "I'll text you his number."
"Okay," I replied, shutting the door.
When she left, I locked up, took a hot shower and laid in bed to go to sleep. Alexis texted Luke's number minutes later. I looked at the message for a moment, deleted it and fell into a peaceful sleep.

It was almost three in the afternoon when I woke up. I was feeling well rested and ready to start my day. After I got dressed, I fixed lunch and checked the missed calls and unread text messages on my phone.
Deon called numerous times while I was asleep and Shawn called once. I called Shawn back.
"'Sup, boo?" Shawn asked. I could hear wind and music in the background, so I guessed that he was in the car.
"Hello, Mr. Something-Came-Up," I answered the phone sarcastically.
"Sierra, you know I would never stand you up," he said immediately after catching on to my tone. No matter how hard I tried to hide it, he could tell that I was really hurt that he didn't show last night. "PeeWee got shot last night."
"What?!" My heart sank to my stomach. "Is he okay? What happened?"
"He's good, he's good. He caught two to the chest, but the doctors got to him just in time. I'ma head to The Spot later to see if I can find out some more about what happened. You ridin' with me?"
"Not tonight. Alexis is going to be there. She was here earlier running shit down and telling lies. You know how your girl do. She really thinks y'all are a couple."
"I know that's your cousin and all, but that bitch trippin'!"
"Yeah, she is. But shit, since I know what the dick is like, too, who could blame her?"
"You know you can run some game," he said, chuckling. "I hope that bitch don't pull nothing tonight."
"She won't," I said matter-of-factly.
"And how do you know that?"
"Because she ain't that stupid."

Alexis
I walked into my crib after running errands all day. I'd just gotten my unemployment check a couple of days ago, and I had to go shopping before I hit The Spot. I couldn't go the week before because my funds were low, but I planned to show up and show out tonight!
I laid my lace tights and gold heels on the bed and sat my gold accessories next to them. I was really hoping Sierra was going to go out with me to celebrate. In my condition, I shouldn't have even been thinking about going to a club, but I figured what the hell. I wasn't going to drink and no one was allowed to smoke inside.
I looked in the mirror and rubbed my flat belly. According to the test I had taken last week, I was pregnant. I calculated that I was a month and a half along. My stomach was still flat as hell, though. I didn't look pregnant.
I had been hoping to celebrate with Shawn as well, but after what had happened the day before, I knew that wasn't an option. Who the fuck does he think he is, telling me my pussy ain't worth the trouble? My pussy is worth all that and more. It has to be, I'm pregnant with his baby. Yeah, we only had sex that one time, but I wanted more.
My plan to get him alone to tell him about the baby didn't work. I made sure to spread the word about PeeWee getting shot so that a lot of people would be in and out of Melody's house, offering their condolences and distracting her in the process. I knew that Shawn would stop by to check on her, and I would be there waiting on him. I tried to catch him before I saw him go in, but a crackhead stopped me and asked for a couple of dollars. After I handed the guy the money, Shawn had already disappeared inside.
I didn't bother going after him. I wasn't allowed in Melody's house after she caught me sucking PeeWee's dick. If she was taking care of home, I wouldn't have had to. She was lucky that's all PeeWee let me do. That nigga was pussy-whipped, and he made sure to let me know that he wasn't sticking his dick in nobody but that ho.
I remembered the day she jumped on me when my back was turned. I couldn't get a hit in, because somebody insisted on holding me down as if I was the one who had started the fight. I was thrown out and spat on like trash. I vowed to get revenge, and I did...the next day when I fucked the hell out of her baby brother.
My phone rang, pulling me out of my thoughts of what I'd do to Melody the next time I saw her. It was from an unfamiliar number.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Yo, it's Luke. What's good? Did you holla at your girl yet?" Luke wanted to know. He was crushing on Sierra something heavy.
"Yeah, I told her that you were checking for her. She said she wasn't sure if she was going to The Spot tonight, but I let her know that you were going to be there. She looked like she was considering it," I said. I sat down on my bed.
"Good, good. Tell her I miss her. How have you been?"
"I'm cool. What about you, Mr. Big Shot? I hear you just opened your second barbershop off of Eisenhower. You doing it big, ain't you?" I asked.
Luke laughed. "Yo, I got a call coming through. I'ma holla at you tonight."
"Yeah." I pressed the end button and looked at my outfit. I was going to enjoy the hell out of it, because I knew I wouldn't be able to get my pregnant ass in it a few months down the road. "I'ma make sure Shawn notices me tonight."
I picked up my phone to make a call. I was glad when Reneka answered. She was a hard bitch to catch up with.
"Where you at?" I asked. "I want you to come check out my outfit."
"I'm home. I'll be over dere in a second, girl. This nigga over here trippin' and shit. Give me a minute."
I hung up and chilled until Reneka showed up. She wore a pink shower cap and matching house slippers. She had on a white tank top without a bra underneath. I could see her titties sagging to her stomach and her nipples on hard. She also had on jean shorts that showed her camel toe, looking all kinds of tore up. Regardless of how she presented herself, she kept it real, so I fucked with her.
"Let me see dis outfit so I can get back to da house. Girl, Ray Ray hungry and shit." She followed me inside and into my bedroom. "Oh, hell yeah, girl. Dat's hot! Where you get dat from? Rainbow?"
"Hell nah! Do I look like the type of bitch that shops at Rainbow? My man bought this for me from Macy's at Olgethorpe. I know it's hot!" I snapped and boasted at the same time. I was proud of the outfit I picked out, but I wasn't going to let this bitch know that I paid for my own shit.
"Shawn bought dat? Girl, I told you dat nigga was the shit. My home girl, Desire, da one dat strip at Sunset, fucked him once. Said da dick was on point."
I instantly got mad as hell. Who the fuck was Desire? I was going to find out, I knew that for sure. I wanted to pump Reneka for some more information. The more you fed into her gossip, the more she talked. She was worse than me. "I think I know Desire. She dark-skinned, right?"
"No, she one of dem red bitches with long hair. Can't tell dat ho shit. She pretty as hell, but arrogant as fuck," she said.
I tossed in a fake laugh. "I thought she was your home girl, Reneka?"
"She is, but dese hos flawed, too!"

On my way to The Spot, I stopped by Sunset to check out my competition. If Desire was as pretty as Reneka claimed, then Shawn was most likely still fucking her. I can't believe how jealous I am, I thought. Shawn had me trippin', but I was carrying his child so I thought I had a right.
I parked in a vacant spot and walked inside. I knew the protocol, and one of the rules for this club was that women couldn't come inside alone without a male in attendance. That's exactly why I had my lie made up as soon as the attendant behind the cash register showed me rule number two on a big, white metal sign behind her.
